TEAM MINI
Taking the adage “good things come in small packages” to the extreme, brands have been creating bags in tinier and tinier iterations, making them more statement accessory than actual purse.
Case in point: Fendi’s It bag of the ’90s, the Baguette – rolled out as the Pico Baguette last season, a minute size that’s “big” enough to fit a pair of standard Apple Airpods. This Prefall sees new styles with details such as micro beads in different colours like lilac and black, as well as raffia and fringes.
Other notable downsized arm candy include Chanel’s four icons – the Classic Flap, 2.55, Boy and Gabrielle (sold as a set of four, in two colours, pink or black) and Balenciaga’s Ghost (called Ghost Sling, in black or white crocodile embossed calfskin).
Price unavailable. To order (upon request only), contact Bottega Veneta’s Ion Orchard store manager Lynette at 9782-6596 via Whatsapp.
TEAM MAXI
On the other end of the spectrum are the brands that abide by the catchphrase “go big or go home”, introducing larger-than-ever sizes for their bags, which are perfect for those who can’t leave home without, well, everything.
At Bottega Veneta, Daniel Lee first introduced the Shoulder Pouch at Resort ’20, shaped like its highly sought-after Pouch clutch, but with a handle that rests comfortably on your shoulders. For Prefall, its large (twice the size of its small) is available in organic recycled paper (pictured here), as well as khaki and beige nappa calfskin.
Other upsized styles this season: Givenchy’s Antigona (called Antigona Soft, in different materials such as crochet and calf leather, and in an array of colours) and Moschino’s Biker Jacket bag (called Macro Biker Jacket, in pink or black lamb leather).
