THE GROWN-UP IT BAG: FENDI’S PEEKABOO X-LITE

It was one of the few bags to make its partition a key feature:

It was one of the few bags to make its partition a key feature: Unlock the twist clasp on either side and the leather would slouch, revealing a sliver of its inner, contrasting compartment. Now, 10 years following the Peekaboo’s debut, the Italian label adds an edition that’s evolved the way most of us would like to ourselves: bigger yet lighter, what with the removal of the partition, and in turn more practical, yet no less chic. – IJ

THE MILESTONE COLLECTION: LONGCHAMP F/W ’18

It turns 70 this month, but everything this French label has been up to recently makes it every bit the daring, successful millennial. The much-hyped, sold-out collab with Shayne Oliver. Kendall Jenner as its new face. On Sept 8, it’ll stage its first full-scale fashion show – in New York, no less. Still the measure of its fashion cred boils down to what women desire from its seasonal collections, and its ready-to-wear is easily the most fashionable since the line debuted in 2006. Expect luxurious, multi-coloured fur coats (the hair’s a by-product, derived from animals slaughtered for food), trendy-hued reversible gilets, folksy scarf print and prairie dresses, along with fringed or laced boots one could imagine Jenner in any day. – IJ

FALL’S ULTIMATE COMEBACK: DIOR’S SADDLE

This equestrian-inspired shoulder bag with its trademark “D” charm was a poster child of the early 2000s It Bag movement, carried by then It girls like Paris Hilton and immortalised on Sex and the City (Carrie brought along a silk printed version for her second date with Aidan). Created by John Galliano for the brand’s risque, bordello-themed S/S ’00 collection, it alone reportedly drove accessories sales up by 60 per cent, but – like most of the women who helped make it famous – remained a thing of that era. Enter current artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri with her knack for making archival reboots trendy. Revealed on this season’s runway, her unexpected “prequel” boasts 21 styles in mini and medium sizes, with finishes ranging from monochrome calfskin to demi-couture beadwork. There are also patterned straps (sold separately) so that they can be slung cross-body. Images of it on It fashion influencers – be it #supplied or organic – flooded social media when it hit stores in July, and continue to do so. Now, if only Hilton can say the same. – IJ
