The Korean singer-actress dishes out on her beauty routine and what she does to get Krystal-clear skin.
As Krystal Jung walks into the hotel room to get ready for our interview, only one thought comes to mind: her skin is .
You might think her flawless face gracing magazine spreads and ETUDE HOUSE posters is a product of Photoshop but trust us when we say it’s real.
Despite having landed in Singapore in the wee hours of the morning, the 22-year-old f(x) member, here for an ETUDE HOUSE store appearance and Star Awards, remains upbeat during our interview, and her professionalism shone through when she didn’t utter a word of complaint when she had to do a few takes of a video for our readers.
We stole a few minutes of her time to find out her beauty faves and habits.
You were so young when you first joined f(x). How has your beauty look changed during your time in the group?
When I first debuted, I was 15, so I was really young. My makeup then was something more natural and pure. I have tried many different types of makeup styles since I first started out in this industry, and I think my job has made me more adventurous in trying out new looks. Now, [my makeup is] a bit more mature. [I use] more warm colours, and sometimes, I wear red lipstick.
Some girl group members use a lot of glitter to attract attention, while others use heavy eye makeup. How do you attract attention using makeup?
I prefer something more natural, but whenever I want to go for fancier makeup, I would wear a lot of mascara or eyeliner, and some fake eyelashes too, which make my eyes look stronger.
What’s your go-to off-duty look?
I don’t really put on makeup because whenever I’m working, I put on heavy makeup. So unless I step out of my home, I don’t really put on makeup.
Can you tell us your makeup routine for day?
I don’t really have a makeup routine, but when I wake up in the morning, I put on lotion, hydrating cream and sun cream. If I have plans with my friends, I put on some cushion and lip tint.
What’s your go-to lip colour when you’re off-duty?
Depends on my mood, but usually I prefer something reddish. I don’t really put pink stuff. (Laughs)
How do you ensure your skin stays so perfect?
The most important thing for me is to remove all the makeup completely before I go to sleep. I put on a lot of moisturising cream before I go to bed. That’s how I take care of my skin – nothing special. I never skip removing my makeup. Never! It’s really important. [And] I always ensure I drink a lot of water and work out as much as I can.
What is a beauty look you think suits everyone?
Having healthy, radiant skin [through skincare and makeup], and a lip colour that fits your skin tone. I think that’s the best look for every woman.
What is one beauty product you can't live without?
I have a few. Hydrating cream and a lip balm. And a cushion. [Because of ] my busy schedule, it's very hard to take care of my skin, but I always carry [hydrating cream and lip balm] around and apply them often to keep my skin moisturised.
You've been in the industry for a long time. What's the best makeup trick you've picked up?
Always use a primer if you want your makeup to last longer! That’s my trick to make sure my makeup stays intact even after perspiring on stage during performances. The ETUDE HOUSE Fix & Fix Primer SPF34/PA++ is my current go-to product.
ETUDE HOUSE's slogan is "Life is Sweet". What's your sweetest memory?
I’ve realised that my sweetest memories are always of those that involve my fans, especially when I get to meet them up-close and communicate with them. They always show me so much support wherever I go, and they make every one of my performances so memorable.
