Researchers and women are discovering that MonaLisa Touch can relieve a surprising array of menopausal symptoms

In Singapore, one in four menopausal women suffer symptoms of vaginal atrophy that include vaginal dryness, itching and painful intercourse. Over time, these symptoms can affect your overall well-being, relationship with your spouse, and ultimately your self-esteem. Unfortunately, many women do not know the correct treatment to combat menopausal symptoms and have little knowledge about the options.

That’s why the revolutionary MonaLisa Touch® is causing such a stir. This new laser treatment has the power to relieve those uncomfortable symptoms, rebuilding the vaginal tissues, making it thicker and denser as it improves the underlying cellular matrix. And it does all this without causing trauma, pain or any side effects, but just using the right amount of laser energy to rejuvenate your tissues so you actually feel young again. Best of all, it requires no anaesthesia, with patients only feeling a light vibration during the five-minute treatment.

Over 500,000 MonaLisa Touch® treatments have been performed in the past four years with no serious adverse effects reported till today. Also, nine in 10 patients have said they are satisfied or very satisfied with the treatment. This confirms MonaLisa Touch® as the surest and safest laser treatment known to treat menopausal symptoms today. MonaLisa Touch® is approved by the international medical community, FDA and Health Canada.

ASK THE DOCTOR

Dr Christopher Chong, urogynaecologist and medical director of Chris Chong Women’s and Urogynae Centre, shares more about MonaLisa Touch®

HOW IS MONALISA TOUCH® CARRIED OUT?

Dr Chong: “It is usually done in a clinic setting with no anaesthesia needed. The patient lies down and props her legs up, similar to a pap smear exam. A probe about the size of the speculum used for pap smear is inserted gently into the vagina, all the way to the cervix (door of the womb). Laser shots are then generated and the probe is slowly, gently withdrawn from the vagina. Some lubricating or anaesthetic gel is applied after the procedure.”

IS IT PAINFUL? CAN I STILL GO TO THE TOILET?

Dr Chong: “The procedure is typically painless and that’s why anaesthesia is usually not needed. Patients will be able to walk and go to the toilet immediately after the procedure as there is typically no downtime.”

HOW LONG DOES THIS TREATMENT TAKE AND HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE NEEDED BEFORE IT IS EFFECTIVE?

Dr Chong: “The treatment usually takes about five minutes and should be done monthly for five months, then followed by once yearly for maintenance. Many patients feel the improvements as early as from the first treatment.”

HOW SOON AFTER THE TREATMENT CAN I HAVE SEX?

Dr Chong: “It would be best to wait a couple of days.”
