The last few years have seen a huge improvement in the technology of aesthetic procedures, and also their popularity. Dr Siew Tuck Wah from Radium Aesthetics shares, “I see more of an increase in numbers asking for injectables now – reflecting an increased acceptance of injections for facial enhancement and rejuvenation.” Dr YZ Tan of Mizu Aesthetics chimes in, stating that “[It is] definitely much more acceptable now that people realise that aesthetic procedures are safe when done by a licensed and experienced doctor.” No longer do people shy away from minimally-invasive procedures like injectables and laser treatments to maintain a youthful visage. Here are the newest in aesthetic procedures that can help delay the signs of ageing.

Thread lifts The thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure, where threads with barbs are inserted under the skin and pulled to give the face a more lifted appearance. According to Dr Y Z Tan of Mizu Aesthetics, threads are versatile in their application. “Threads can be inserted along the cheeks to reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds, or along the jawline to lift the jowls to create a V-shaped face,” comments Dr Tan.

“They can also be used on the nose, for a higher nose bridge.”

The procedure takes about 60 to 90 minutes, including the time required for numbing. An average of three to 10 threads may be used for each side of the face. Results are immediate, and usually last between nine and 12 months. The threads used are usually made from polydioxanone (PDO) or poly L-lactic acid (PLL A), the same type of threads used in surgery that will dissolve and be absorbed by the body over time.

Unlike traditional facelifts which involve surgery and a longer downtime, thread lifts can be done during lunch hours, and you can go about your day as usual.

However, it’s not advisable for those who have undergone thread lifting to do laser or ultrasound treatments which involve heat. A consultation with an experienced.
