When it comes to famous faces doling out goodwill to the underprivileged, one person stands heads and shoulders above the rest: Oprah Winfrey. The queen of daytime television – worth an estimated US$3.1 billion and ranked as the world’s third-most powerful woman by Forbes magazine – is easily the most influential celebrity philanthropist, according to The Giving Back Fund. The national philanthropist group says since 2009, Oprah has given away more than US$40 million for causes including education and programmes for women and children.
In fact, the 63-year-old has topped The Giving Back Fund’s annual ranking of the top 30 celebrity philanthropists in all but one year, since the list began in 2007.
