What we’re all talking about this month.

Millionaire Ex-Wives’ Club

Many of these lavish ladies need no introduction. They’re smart and successful, but they are also famous for having gone through multimillion dollar divorces.

My Reading Room

MacKenzie Tuttle, Ex-wife of Jeff Bezos

After 25 years of marriage, MacKenzie and her ex-husband, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, finalised the terms of their divorce in April and the result has made her the third richest woman in the world. The couple didn’t have a prenuptial agreement so she walked away with about 25 per cent of his fortune.

My Reading Room

Jane Fonda, Ex-wife of Ted Turner

Actress and fitness enthusiast, Jane Fonda, married media mogul, Ted Turner, in 1991 but their marriage was a fractured one and lasted just ten years. She didn’t leave empty handed, however, and is estimated to have pocketed millions after walking out on the CNN president.

Divorce Settlement: $95 million

My Reading Room

Elle MacPherson, Ex-wife of Jeffrey Soffer

She may be unlucky in love but with each divorce (this is her third!), supermodel Elle has just managed to get even wealthier. She called time on her marriage to billionaire real estate developer Jeffrey Soffer in 2017 after a four year union and her bank account is obviously thanking her for it.

Divorce Settlement: $107 million

My Reading Room

Michelle Yeoh, Ex-wife of Dickson Poon

This former Bond girl has an estimated net worth of $40 million. We’re not sure how much of that can be attributed to her divorce from HK billionaire Dickson Poon, whom she was married to from 1988 to 1992, but we’re guessing quite a bit.

Divorce Settlement: Undisclosed

My Reading Room

Ivana Trump & Marla Maples, Ex-wives of Donald Trump

Ivana famously said ‘Don’t get even, get everything’ and she did exactly that when she kicked Donald Trump to the curb at the end of their 15-year marriage. Second wife, Marla, wasn't as lucky. She walked away with a paltry sum in comparison to Ivana after she left the sitting US President in 1999.

Divorce Settlement: $34 million

Divorce Settlement: $2.7 million

My Reading Room

Wendi Deng, Ex-wife of Rupert Murdoch

Media magnate Rupert married Wendi in 1999 in what was his third and her second marriage. 14 years later and the couple headed for splitsville in 2013 but not before reaching a divorce agreement amounting to billions of dollars for Wendi. Ka-ching!

Divorce Settlement: $2.3 billion

Rinse, Lather, Repeat

If it ain’t broke, why fix it? That’s the path Hollywood has taken with their movie releases in June because everything coming out is a riff off something we’ve seen before.

Shaft is the coolest private eye on any New York City block. Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as John Shaft, a cyber-security expert with a score to settle, in this 2019 edition.

My Reading Room

Here’s where it gets complicated. This film is the sequel to 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse but the Dark Phoenix storyline was originally covered in Brett Ratner’s 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand

The Price Of Celebrity

From dealing with stalkers to battling with the pressures of fame, it’s not easy being a celebrity. So it’s no wonder then these A-listers have had to seek help by checking into rehabilitation centres.

Donut Miss Out On This Date

Everyone loves donuts and on June 3 it brings even more smiles to people’s faces because that’s when National Donut Day is celebrated. Glaze over these fun donut facts in commemoration:

- Renee Zellweger said she ate 20 donuts a day to gain weight for the Bridget Jones sequel.

- Canada really likes donuts. It has the most number of donut shops per capita in the world.

- Is it spelled donut or doughnut? Believe it or not, both are correct!

- Krispy Kreme’s most famous and best-selling donut flavour is the Original Glazed.

- The largest donut ever made was created in New York in 1993. It was a jam donut that weighed 1,700 kg. Whoa!

- Dunkin’ Donuts takes the number one spot as the largest donut chain in the world with a whopping 11,000 stores in 33 countries.

- To burn off a single donut (190 calories) you need to walk for an hour or run for half an hour. We think it’s totally worth it!

When it comes to planning a good travel itinerary, you only need to include three things to please a Singaporean: Lots of food stops, the occasional sightseeing tour, and a solid day of good ol’ retail therapy. And with the June school holidays in full swing, there’s no better time to get your fashion and beauty fixes than on your next adventure! My Reading Room

NEW YORK, USA

Where: Hudson Yards

What you can expect: Think of the recently-opened Hudson Yards as a self-contained city on the western end of New York – because that’s exactly what it is. Apart from the swanky hotel and a massive structure that’s essentially a vertical viewing deck, you’ll find plenty to shop from in the plaza building. Look out for the massive Sephora store, or ogle at the fine displays in Neiman Marcus. Either way, be advised to plan a full day of shopping and eating here.

My Reading Room

BANGKOK, THAILAND

Where: ICONSIAM

What you can expect: This mall is dubbed the “mother of all malls”, and for good reason. With a directory that lists 500 shops and 100 eateries for you to choose from, this is one of those malls that you can truly get lost in. Located along the Chao Phraya river, pop into COS, Alexander McQueen or ÅLAND for some new threads, as your kids find their entertainment at the in-mall museum and aquariums.

My Reading Room

What you can expect: If shopping in Tokyo has you feeling a little overwhelmed, then take some time out to visit Shibuya Stream. The idea of this mall is to provide patrons with a relaxing enclave within the bustling Shibuya neighbourhood. Here, you’re encouraged to take a stroll along the river, kick back at one of the grub spots and enjoy the world-famous lobster roll from Luke’s Lobster or Japanese skewers from Kushitei.
