What goes behind a seemingly simple design? In the case of the new Cellini collection, a myriad of elements.

Featuring a white lacquer dial, the new Cellini Time (right) is now amplified with 12 elongated applique hour markers, while both the Cellini Dual Time (opposite page, left) and Cellini Date (opposite page, right) have introduced an expanded version of dials and straps – guilloche brown dial and guilloche blue dial, respectively. All three models are the epitome of classic elegance, with their simplicity and beauty injecting flair into the timeless collection.

My Reading Room

There are a million and one things constantly trying to steal our attention: the wires with a flood of breaking news; the social media with a deluge of voices from change makers and influencers; our mobile phones with a myriad apps. It thus comes as a calming breath of fresh air when something wants not to distract us, but to focus on the very moment we are in – the here and now.

Such is the nature of the Cellini. The new versions of the Cellini Time, Cellini Date and Cellini Dual Time – unveiled at the 2016 Baselworld – stay true to the collection’s essence. Free of grand complications, avant garde design and other elements made to excite, the series is the embodiment of understated elegance in its dedication to its purpose.

While the Cellini Dual Time simultaneously tells the time of two places, and the Cellini Date incorporates a date display, the Cellini Time dedicates itself to displaying simply the time: the very precise hour, minute and second of the moment. Subtle design elements distinguish the new 39mm case models in 18K white or Everose gold – Rolex’s very own pink gold alloy.

The new Cellini Time model features a redesigned, pristine white lacquer dial featuring 12 elongated applique hour markers. Its look is completed by a brown alligator leather strap, resulting in a versatile piece that can complement any outfit, be it a sharp three-piece suit for a formal event or a casual ensemble of linen shirt and tailored shorts for the weekend. The Cellini Date in 18K polished white gold is given a mesmerising blue guilloche dial, complemented by a blue alligator leather strap – a study in restrained flamboyance.

The Cellini Dual Time is given a kiss of warm colours. Encased in 18K polished Everose gold, the Cellini Dual Time now comes with a guilloche dial in a rich tone, complemented by an alligator leather strap in brown. Style and substance are well married in this collection, which is equipped with a new generation of self-winding movement manufactured entirely by Rolex.

The mechanical movement features an oscillator with a blue Parachrom hairspring. Crafted from an alloy patented and manufactured by Rolex, the mechanism is insensitive to magnetic fields. It also offers better stability in fluctuating temperatures and possesses excellent shock-resistance, making it 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks.

A Rolex overcoil further ensures regularity in any position – so you can be assured of accuracy, even in demanding motorsports environments. As part of the Rolex family, the timepieces in the new Cellini collection are crafted to exacting standards. With an international five-year guarantee, each Cellini watch is an assurance of long-lasting dependability.

Beyond that, each model also carries the Superlative Chronometer certification – a new standard redefined by Rolex last year, which requires an accuracy of -2/+2 seconds per day. Symbolised by the distinctive green seal that comes with every Rolex timepiece, this exclusive designation is testimony that the watch on your wrist has successfully passed a stringent series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories.

The criteria for these tests set by Rolex have long been known to go above and beyond watchmaking norms and standards. To illustrate: the precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer after casing is more than twice that required of an official chronometer. The seal is thus a mark of performance excellence in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding.

All in all, the Cellini is a timepiece that carries with it superlative engineering and evergreen design – appreciated by those who see beyond its simplicity.
