Draw on ancient remedies in Korean traditional medicine for a smooth, radiant complexion with this facial. Grounded in the concept of “Sang-seng”, South Korean luxury brand Sulwhasoo believes that a balance of the skin’s inner energies – yin (associated with coldness) and yang (associated with heat) – is key to a healthy complexion and builds its skincare around this philosophy.

These same principles guide the treatments at the brand’s boutique-based spas, known as Beauty Lounges. Top of Her World readers’ list of anti-ageing facials to try is the Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Treatment ($260 for 80min). This pampering facial uses Sulwhasoo’s Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream EX, which is enriched with ginseng flower and red ginseng root extracts, said to be “yang” and warm in nature. Balance comes from the use of cooling jade rollers that represent the “yin” and are said to maximise the wrinkle-fighting properties of the cream. To boost its absorption, the cream is massaged into skin using techniques such as the “twist and pinch” and “pick and lift”.
