A hot beverage doesn’t just give you that toasty feeling – it could make you kinder and more giving too. A recent study at Yale University in the US found that people who held a warm cup of coffee judged others more positively than those with an iced coffee.

Turn up the heat

A hot beverage doesn’t just give you that toasty feeling – it could make you kinder and more giving too. A recent study at Yale University in the US found that people who held a warm cup of coffee judged others more positively than those with an iced coffee. In another experiment, participants were asked to choose between receiving a gift certifi cate for a friend or a gift for themselves. Those holding heat packs were more likely to opt for the gift certifi cate. The group with frozen packs tended to keep the gift for themselves. “Physical warmth can make us see others as warmer people, and make us more generous and trusting as well,” says study co-author John Bargh, a psychologist at Yale.
