Disturbing images are tougher to push out of your mind once you sleep on them, research in the journal Nature Communications suggests. Study participants who viewed upsetting photos were better able to suppress the memory of the shots 30 minutes later than when they waited until the next day to mentally hit delete. Sleep helps your brain form memories, the study authors explain.
So switch to lighter night-time fare to wake up on the right side of the bed.
