My Reading Room

The homeowners of this 3,900sqf cluster house at Serangoon Road requested that the team from interior design firm Black N White House create a sophisticated abode with warm, earthy hues. They wanted a home with a sleek contemporary design, as well as cosy bedrooms to retreat to come night time.

A large, black TV console with cove lighting anchors the living room, juxtaposed against cream-coloured flooring and lots of wood-look design features – a simple yet visually arresting sight. To its left is the dining room, which exudes an almost al fresco ambience due to the natural sunlight and view from the balcony. As the homeowners do a fair bit of cooking, they opted for an enclosed kitchen – but breakfast and bakes can be prepared in the dry kitchen, next to the dining area.

Upstairs, the rooms are clad in a darker colour palette, consisting of American dark ash wood laminates. A walkin wardrobe was part of the brief, too, so the Black N White House team erected a false wall demarcating the sleeping area from the vanity. To counter the lack of natural sunlight in the vanity, the designers equipped the space with white light. No effort was spared, even in the guestrooms. Inspired by boutique hotel interiors, wallcoverings with abstract motifs clad the walls, while framed photos and art accessorise the room.
