With the recent increase in the price of water, what can you do at home to cut back on this cost? Experts at Bosch share tips on how you can save water even when doing the laundry.

Top load or front load washer – which saves more water?

Front loaders use 50 per cent less water as compared to top loaders, due to the rotation of the drum. With a stainless steel drum that spins inside the tub, it can withstand higher spin speeds than plastic or ceramic drums found in top loaders. Water fills the machine up to a level below the door opening. As the drum spins, laundry gets caught in the protrusions, known as vanes, and is lifted to the top, before dropping back into the water. This movement offers a better cleaning performance.

Low-sud detergent used in front load washers also require less rinsing per wash, thus lowering water usage.

What water-saving functions are there in washing machines?

There are a number of sensors present in Bosch front load washers that help save water. For example, there are sensors to evaluate your laundry load’s degree of soiling, so the machine can determine the amount of water needed, and if an extra rinse is necessary.

Selecting the Eco Program in front loaders saves energy and water, too. Most of Bosch front load washers come with the EcoPerfect function – it uses less water, lower water temperatures and less agitation force – so users save on water and energy consumption.

To achieve results equivalent to that of a regular cycle, the EcoPerfect feature keeps the cycle running for a longer time.

What are some simple hacks to save water when doing the laundry?

Instead of running small loads of laundry, consolidate them to run full loads to get the most out of your water usage, regardless of your type of washer. The dosage of laundry detergent also affects water consumption, as it will result in unnecessary rinse cycles, so it is best to use the recommended amount.

Not sure how much detergent is needed? Bosch i-DOS systempowered washers can automatically determine the precise amount of detergent needed for each load, so you’ll never have to worry!
