Beautiful crockery makes dining much more enjoyable, and there are plenty to choose from at Lovera Collections. The formerly home-based business, which started in 2014, now has a showroom in Geylang, which founder Vera Ong describes as a dream come true for her customers.
Vera, who runs the business with her husband, has been collecting decorative plates for four years – and her former job as NOW a Singapore Airlines stewardess gave her the opportunity to source for more unique designs. The physical store carries a wide range of tableware designs, such as Moroccan-inspired floral pieces from Taiwan and a limited range from Amazonica Argentina.
Her pretty wares are affordable as well, with plates going from $8.90 to $70 each. The higher-priced plates come from well-known brand Twig New York, which works with New York-based designers, and manufactures with Hankook, an established Korean fine bone china manufacturer.
Vera, who obviously has an eye for style, offers tips to homeowners who want to expand or spice up their tableware collection. “First, throw away boring plain plates!” she says. “Be experimental when mixing and matching tableware. A nice border design on your plate will accentuate and frame your food.”
How about those with small tabletops? “Plates around 8 inches (20cm) will not overcrowd a small table, and soup plates can hold gravy as well as dry food. Also, a plate stand lets you serve two to three types of dishes at once,” she advises.
