Skincare lovers will know by now that hyaluronic acid (HA) is a staple ingredient in every woman’s antiageing beauty arsenal. The reason why is simple. Good hydration is the basis for healthy skin and HA acts like a super sponge, holding up to 1,000 times its own weight in water.

Although the body produces HA naturally on its own, the amount is not always enough as factors such as a lack of sleep and stress can weaken or damage the skin barrier. When this happens, moisture escapes more easily from deep within the skin, causing it to become dry, flaky, dull and uneven.

To work on replenishing lost moisture and strengthening the skin barrier, many over-the-counter face creams and serums have HA in their formulas. This key hydrating ingredient has also found its way to aesthetic clinics. The latest HA-based treatment that’s currently trending across Asia? The Derma Skin Booster, also known in Mandarin as Shui Guang Zhen, which literally means “water bright injection”.

AN INTENSE INFUSION OF MOISTURE

Administered by a doctor, this treatment is billed as a thirstquencher for dehydrated skin. The results are, apparently, instant: a softer, smoother complexion with a healthylooking radiance that revitalises the look of your skin.

The boost of HA gives you a reservoir of the substance to keep your skin constantly hydrated, leaving it plump and supple. The appearance of pores will also be reduced as skin plumps up. Expect acne scars, too, to become less obvious.

The Derma Skin Booster treatment starts with the application of a numbing cream on the area to be treated. A doctor then administers a series of HA micro-injections to just below the skin’s surface. The shots contain a painkiller, so the procedure will be fairly painless. Lastly, a cooling face mask with calming properties will be applied to reduce any redness caused by the minuscule pinpricks.

It is recommended that you go for the treatment once a month for the first three to six sessions. Subsequently, go for it once every six months. Results are said to last six months to a year.
