HELLEBORUS
Picked by: Josephine Lau of Floral Magic (http://www.floralmagic.com.sg)
Why they’re in: “Helleborus are becoming more popular because of their unusual colourways and natural, unruly look,” says Josephine. “The stems also provide lovely movement as they naturally curve downward. Enjoy them alone in a vase, or pair with a contrasting texture such as viburnum berries or sweet pea.”
How they make you feel: “They enhance energy and vitality, self-assurance, poise and self-awareness. They also help reduce tension and shyness,” says flower alchemist Katie Hess.

MATTHIOLAS
Picked by: Aude Giraud, owner of Ask A French Flowers (http://www.askafrenchflowers.com)
Why they’re in: “People who are bored with roses and lilies will like the matthiola – it represents eternal happiness and love, and hence are especially apt for the beginning months of the year,” says Aude. “A spray bouquet looks great as the matthiola is a tall flower – buy about 10 stalks, pair them with leaves like the eucalyptus, and you’ll get a magnificent arrangement.”
How they make you feel: “Matthiolas help dissolve rigid routines while magnifying a sense of freedom, creativity, spontaneity and possibilities,” says Katie.

DAVID AUSTIN ROSES
Picked by: Ng Yi Lian, owner of Yi Lian Ng Floral Atelier (http://www.yilianng.com
Why they’re in: “People are becoming more discerning about the type of flowers to buy, and have the capacity to spend on them – and David Austin Roses are among those for which demand has grown. They are very elegant and have the sweetest scent,” says Yi Lian. “They’re also quite hardy. If you take good care of them, they can last up to two weeks. I like putting a single stalk in a statement vase, which allows the vase to complement the simplicity of the flower.”
How they make you feel: Katie says: “David Austin Roses promote gentleness, tenderness, love and support, and help dissolve irritation.”

ANEMONES
Picked by: Sarah Lim, owner and creative director of Poppy Flora Studio (http://www.poppy.com.sg
Why they’re in: “Greenery was selected as Pantone’s Color of the Year 2017, predicting a global gravitation towards nature. I foresee an increase in the popularity of flowers that possess this ‘wild’, ‘natural’ vibe, like the anemone,” explains Sarah. “Anemones are exotic and exciting, but effortlessly elegant. To complement the ‘wild’ vibe, pair anemones with greens such as eucalyptus, asparagus fern and leather ferns.”
How they make you feel: “Anemones can enhance flexibility, clarity and concentration, and help liberate rigid ways of thinking,” suggests Katie.
