ARTISTS TAKE ON SINGAPORE

Every picture tells a story, which is why art graduate and Bossini heiress Queenie Rosita Law decided to invite eight artists to give a personal take on their homeland using artworks, quotes and anecdotes. Her first book focused on Hong Kong; now, she is about to launch The City Book - Singapore. It will feature the works of local artists such as Robert Zhao, Dawn Ng, Hilmi Johandi and Charles Lim. Law reveals that her favourite part of this book is the inclusion of a map that pinpoints the areas that the artists are talking about so that readers can discover the places themselves. “It’s said that with the commercialisation of shops, cities are looking very similar. However, that’s not actually true because each city has its own identity thanks to the people, their culture, experiences, dreams and even fears,” says Law. “This book helps people look deeper into the inhabitants’ experiences through the art from there.” An exhibition of the works will be shown at SPRMRKT Daily at Singapore Tyler Print Institute from 14 January to 21 February, 2017. Priced about $77, visit http://www.qcitybook.com

MAKING HISTORY

Loewe is marking its 170th anniversary by putting together a book featuring never-seen-before images from the brand. Creative Director Jonathan Anderson invited indie magazine publisher Luis Venegas to look through the brand’s archives and pull out his favourite images—the result is Loewe: Past, Present, Future, a 592-page coffee table book. “People are excited about Loewe today because it looks fresh and [has] an energy to try new things. Researching this book, I discovered that that’s what Loewe has always been about. The house has been incredibly modern, avant-garde even,” says Luis Venegas. Priced $195 and available at Loewe boutiques
