Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) is just around the corner. But before that watch fair takes place, here’s a taste of what to expect in the year ahead
THE STYLE CHAMELEON
Audemars Piguet has refreshed its beloved Millenary collection for ladies with an encompassing range of strap options that are set to be a win with the fashionable crowd. Rubber, alligator and even velvet among other textile options all lend a hand in updating the horology classic, while a wide spectrum of colours makes wardrobe pairing a walk in the park.
THE ASTRONOMER
Van Cleef & Arpels’ Complication Poétique Midnight Planétarium watch was the talk of the town when it was released in 2014. Bearing precious stones that rotated around its aventurine dial at various speeds, the watch was a microcosm of the solar system— conveniently sized for the wrist. This year sees the watch being launched specifically for ladies with a slight modification: A diamond moon that makes a full orbit around Earth every 29.5 days, while Mercury, Venus and Earth chart their own trajectory in real time.
THE IMPRESSIONIST
For 2018, Piaget is once again throwing a feature that has been a brand signature since the 1960s back into the spotlight with its Extremely Lady timepiece. Bearing a charming oval dial that’s encircled with dazzling diamonds, the watch’s tour de force lies in a gold bracelet that has been inspired by the plush texture of fur and skilfully hand-etched with minute strokes to catch the light at every angle.
THE DESIGN AFICIONADO
To mark its inaugural participation in SIHH this year, Hermès is introducing a new collection of Cape Cods that are set to fly o the shelves as soon as they arrive. Featuring a rhodium-plated mirror-like dial, the timepiece is as current and relevant today as it was in 1991 when Artistic Director Henri d’Origny brought it to actuality. Available in two sizes with a single or double tour straps and Milanese bracelet.
THE ROMANTIC
IWC Schahausen turns 150 this year and the watchmaker is marking this significant milestone anniversary with a jubilee collection that includes a special limited edition timepiece (of 50 pieces) for women. The Da Vinci Automatic Moon Phase 36 Edition “150 Years” features a lacquered dial graced with a moon phase at the 12 o’clock position and 206 diamonds (approximately 2.26 carats) on its case and movable lugs.
