When Bottega Veneta’s Creative Director Daniel Lee presented his fall/winter collection, all eyes were drawn to his chunky quilted leather pumps and wondrous geometric clutches, in particular The Padded Cassette, a crossbody bag that takes inspiration from the interiors of luxury cars of the ’70s. Created out of buttery-soft paper calf leather made with a specialised high-frequency heat-sealing technique, then worked into a padded maxi weave, it’s a clever and contemporary take on the iconic BV intrecciato weave. With an exaggerated matelassé effect, its cushiony, irresistibly tactile form evokes ideas of comfort, protection and utter luxury.
