CROWNING GLORY

If you think embroidery is reserved for your grandma’s throw pillow collection, Sheena Liam’s Instagram feed (@times.new.romance) will change your mind. The Malaysian-born artist (who happens to be the winner of the second season of Asia’s Next Top Model) embroiders self-portraits of her going about her daily life—all with her hair cascading gracefully off the canvas. She also had her first solo art show in Paris last year, and she’s just getting started.

5 MINUTES WITH… MICHELLE WIE

This 29-year-old golfing champ was in town last month to defend her HSBC Women’s World Championship title. We caught up with her to ask her about golf, fashion and food.

She’s been playing golf since she was four…

“My dad got me started on it and I loved it from the very start.”

And credits the sport for many things

“Aside from discipline, I think it teaches patience—it has definitely taught me the patience to deal with a few of the injuries I’ve had! It has also helped me to develop my time management skills, independence and ability to deal with adversity. Most of all, though, it has allowed me to meet an amazing group of friends.”

She also wants people to know how fun it can be

“I don’t consciously think about inspiring younger girls as I go about my day-to-day business, but I really hope I manage to convey just what a wonderful game golf is, and how much fun it can be if you approach it with the right attitude.”

She uses social media for style inspo...

“I love fashion and enjoy looking for inspiration on Pinterest and Instagram. I also follow Vogue and all the fashion bloggers.”

And has an Instagram account that documents the foods she eats

“I love food and I love to eat and I’ve always been putting up pictures of my meals so I decided to start a separate account. I would say I’m an adventurous foodie. There is lots of variety on there for sure! Check it out at @whatdowieeat.”
