Hug It Out

A hug is always nice, but how long does it need to be to really make a difference?

Even if we can live without hugs, we can’t deny we’re happier having them. But how long should one last in order for real positive feelings to be created? Twenty seconds, according to researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Hugs of this duration increase levels of oxytocin, the same hormone released during lovemaking or bonding with a baby, which gives rise to feelings of attachment, safety and relaxation. The next time you meet bae, skip the quick embrace and hug it out long and good to strengthen closeness and calm the mind and body.
