A Series of Unfortunate Events

If you, like this writer, were sorely disappointed at the lack of a sequel to the Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events film back in 2004, you’re in for a treat. The series is getting adapted again, this time in the form of an eightepisode series, with Neil Patrick Harris looking very unrecognisable in his role as the villainous Count Olaf.

Release date: January 13, 2017

Iron Fist

After the successes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, Iron Fist is the next Marvel superhero in line to get the Netflix treatment. Our hero this time is Danny Rand, who, judging by the trailer, can punch very well. This also sets things up for The Defenders, which is basically like The Avengers but on a smaller scale. Exciting times ahead!

If you didn’t know, our cover girl Cara Delevingne is set to star in the summer blockbuster, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. And get this – the movie is being made with a budget of US$208 million, making it the most expensive non-US movie in cinematic history. Where is all this money going to? Special effects, of course, seeing that this is a sci-film. They’ve got Weta Digital (Avatar, The Lord of the Rings), Industrial Light & Magic (Star Wars) and Rodeo FX (Game of Thrones) working on it to bring the visual spectacle to life. Is it money well spent? Guess we’ll have to see it to find out.
