It’s been seven years since YG Entertainment debuted a new all-female group, and boy, was it worth the wait.

My Reading Room

When YG Entertainment, the label of K-Pop heavyweights Big Bang, announced that a new girl group was in the works, the question on everyone’s mind was whether they’ll be too similar to their label mates 2NE1. Consisting of Jennie, who was featured on a G-Dragon track back in 2012; Jisoo, who had appeared in commercials with actor Lee Min Ho; and Rosé and Lisa, both of whom came in first place during the global YG auditions, it’s safe to say they’re not your average K-Pop trainees. But just like how fellow label mates iKon and Winner have big shoes to fill in Big Bang’s wake, Black Pink has a tough act to follow. But it seems like they’re off to a good start – their debut singles “BOOMBAYAH” and “Whisper” have been the talk of the town, with the latter even achieving an all-kill within 24 hours of its release. We’re definitely looking forward to what else Black Pink has in store, especially since YG’s president Yang Hyun Suk has said that they’re now the label’s representative girl group.
