My Reading Room

1 She’s a three-time world karate champion

“I feel like if I haven’t done karate, I’d find being a singer really, really, really difficult. Karate taught me a lot about staying focused and working hard. And I guess you also need to do all of that in this career.”

2 Her work is most inspired by people’s stories

“I write a lot about the things I’ve been through, but if I don’t have anything to write about, I’ll just have a conversation with my friends or my family and draw inspiration from their experiences.”

3 Her single “Alarm” was written after an ex cheated on her

“Even though I was cheated on, I’ve grown stronger from the experience, and I always try to write songs about stuff like that. Hopefully, people who have also been cheated on will feel better after listening to my music.”

4 “Then” was written because she wanted something different from her other songs

“‘Alarm’ and ‘Ciao Adios’ are quite angry songs. And I just needed to write something that was more slow, emotional and sad. I also wanted to show people that I’m not just a really angry person.”

5 If she wasn’t singing, she’d be a private detective

“I love trying to figure things out and getting to the bottom of things. I wish I was a superhero so I could help people and take the baddies out.”
