“I’ve learnt the hard way that you absolutely have to make sure you book a place way in advance. Once, I forgot to make plans, and only remembered on the day itself. I panicked when I realised all the places my girlfriend likes were fully-booked. We ended up eating fast food at some random place that didn’t turn out to be very nice… she was really mad. But I apologised and got her a very nice gift after that to make up for it!”

“I’m not sure about the biggest mistake, but here’s a list of mistakes I’ve made during V-Day. I’ll let you be the judge of which is the worst:

1. Didn’t buy her flowers.

2. Got the wrong type of chocolates.

3. Took her to a “not fancy” enough restaurant.

4. Used a coupon at that restaurant.

5. Didn’t get her a gift.

7. Got her a “practical” gift – in this case, it was a bottle opener.

8. Didn’t send her a card.

9. Sent her a card with flowers to her workplace... only to have misspelled her name on the card.

10. And my all-time favourite: deciding for her that we should skip Valentine’s Day because it’s too expensive and letting her find out on the day itself.”

“I was dating a girl a few years back, and when Valentine’s Day rolled around, I knew I had to bring out the big guns because I wanted us to take our relationship to the next level. I showed up at a beautiful restaurant 30 minutes early, wanting to secure the perfect table for this special occasion. I should have known that something was amiss when they told me I could have any table I wanted. Having done my research on Google, I picked the table with the best view of the city skyline. I played out how the evening would go again and again in my mind as I waited for her. There was going to be flowers, soft candlelight, and romance – I thought I had it all down pat. Then she arrived, still in her work clothes. And I couldn’t help but wonder why the restaurant was still empty on Valentine’s Day... turns out, I had gotten the date wrong!”
