Inspired by old Tyrolean farmhouses, the elegant Hotel Kitzhof Mountain Design Resort combines natural splendour with quirky design. Showcasing the region’s natural beauty, expect locally sourced materials in everything from furnishing to food, incorporating the best of the Tyrol, from its crafts to panoramas and people. Drawing inspiration from the timbered lodges of the region, this country gem is just a five-minute walk from the glamorous heart of town.
Dreamed up by co-owner Uschi Schelle-Müller, the inn’s 168 rooms and suites are a majestic take on a traditional chalet nestled among the peaks above Kitzbühel. The wall panelling and the worn larch floorboards are salvaged from old cabins and lodges while the loden blankets, stag antlers and leather for the sleek chairs are regionally produced. In the lobby, sculpted wooden lampshades and bucket-shaped leather armchairs share space with a reception desk handcrafted by a local cabinetmaker.
The resort’s commitment to ‘going natural’ includes using solar energy to heat its pool for energy efficiency. Additionally for the milk on its breakfast tables, it is commitment to a single-family settlement that sustains itself traditionally by attending to just six cows, processing milk the old-fashioned way with small-scale organic farming methods. Similarly its own all-natural product line, Just Pure, is used in the spa, a perfect fit for guests concerned with clean ingredients and sustainability.
