SPEND SOME TIME ABOARD the Ferretti Yachts 700 and you’ll discover that this totally new yacht is the evolution of a successful model. The FY700 appeared at the last Cannes Yachting Festival, where the Italian brand presented it together with the new Ferretti Yachts 550. These models are dedicated to owners who like to cruise in total comfort and safety on a yacht with a sporty layout where space and quality of life on board are fundamental elements.

Designed by Studio Zuccon International Project and Ferretti Group’s Engineering Department, the FY700 offers new aesthetic and functional solutions. The hull is totally restyled and has large glazed surfaces that offer an unobstructed view thanks to the special solutions adopted for the structure.

The FY700, 860 and 970 were on display at the second edition of the Ferretti Group Asia Pacific Open Days at the Italian builder’s Aberdeen service facility in Hong Kong June 10-12. All three are part of Ferretti’s Tai He Ban collection of yachts that have been fine-tuned specifically for the Asian market.

There are many important innovations aboard this luxury yacht, including the large swimming platform with integrated tender lift that allow an easy way to launch the tender and lets guests enjoy the sea. This large bathing area represents the easiest way to get in and out of the water.

Sophisticated solutions have been developed to ensure an easy way of life aboard and a very comfortable cruise. The design is developed to offer privacy, sea views throughout the interior and natural light everywhere.

The light in the main saloon is impressive as it streams through the big lateral windows that provide sea views from the sofa as well as from the lunch table.

It’s not easy to realise such an impressive solution on a very aerodynamic design, but Zuccon International Project drew upon its wealth of experience to create a modern and functional design that’s original yet retains a family feeling, all perfectly integrated with the renewed hull.

To magnify the exterior layout, Ferretti Yachts adopted a new combination of colours for the superstructure. The FY700’s aerodynamic design is evident in the lengthened flybridge, with the satellite systems and antennas housed in the Vulcan Grey roll bar above. The result is a nice contrast with the white shade of the hull and superstructure, making the layout more sporty and light in terms of perception.

The design work of the new Ferretti Yachts 700 is – as usual for Zuccon International Project – a combination of aesthetic and functional elements. “The architecture has to be concentrated to offer the perfect integration between shape and functionality,” says Gianni Zuccon. “People and living solutions have to be the central point of any project, in the middle of a new project we put a focus on the people and the quality of life we can offer with our projects.”

Aboard this yacht it is clear that this concept forms the base of the impressive work that the Italian design studio produces every day. The interior layouts offer two versions to satisfy different needs and ways of living at sea. The differences are mainly in the lobby and the guest cabins, the master cabin and the VIP suite at the bow in both versions are the same.

All the furniture is realised using carefully selected materials to ensure a high level of luxury and pleasant stay. Above that, the yard paid a special attention to reducing vibration and noise in all areas of the yacht, adopting technical solutions that guarantee a top level of comfort at any speed, in any conditions.

This new fly yacht is uncommonly comfortable during navigation at the highest speeds, so much so that vibrations and noise are unnoticed by the Owners and guests. Ferretti has done a really good job in all the cabins, the saloon and the helm station.

The master stateroom is a full-beam cabin located mid-ship, with all the proper comfort of bigger yachts in terms of structure, construction, and space – as well as no noise and vibration. It’s a very interesting result; one not usually found on a yacht under 24 metres.

As for the performance, it’s best to start with the hull that’s clearly optimised from an already good shape that produces very interesting results aided by a perfect weight disposal and the two MAN V8 1200 engines. The maximum speed of 32.5 knots with a total fuel consumption of 460 litres/hour is impressive, as is the very notable speed of 23 knots with a total fuel consumption of 240 litres/hour. The FY 700’s extraordinary comfort is comparable with a full-displacement yacht at 12 knots.

This is the result of a perfect combination of water lines, weight and power, as well as a good construction process. The Ferretti Yachts technical department did a very good job on this yacht in terms of project and analysis, but also in terms of the technical solutions that is possible appreciate inside the engine room. Everything is in the right position with easy to care for, high-quality systems in a well-refrigerated area.

The figures taken during the sea trial provide a good idea about the important job done by the shipyard to offer a performance luxury yacht able to sail at a maximum speed of 32.5 knots, or at the considerable cruising speed of 28kts in maximum comfort and safety, with a fuel consumption of 360 litres per hour that allow the yacht to sail up to 300 nautical miles.

The yard offers different solutions for engines. One is a MAN V8 with 1,000hp (each) and the other is the MAN V8 1,200hp. This test yacht has the most powerful solution.

Easy to manoeuvre, soft on the waves and powerful when needed – considering this is a 70ft yacht where comfort and space are top level, this is one of the best yachts in this segment. We really appreciate the behaviour at sea at any speed and also in small areas manoeuvring, where the FY700 is as easy to manage as a smaller yacht. Elegant as a luxury Italian yacht must be, with the materials selected for all the areas combining to offer a high-class stay with maximum comfort.

The new Ferretti Yachts 700 is another example of the excellent work done by the Italian yard to offer international customers the best of Italian style combined with technology and quality in all areas of the yacht, including the smallest and unseen parts.
