HONG KONG’S BOAT SHOW CALENDAR welcomed a new arrival with the inaugural Fragrant Harbour Maritime Festival at Central Ferry Pier 8, home of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum.
Promoting the tagline ‘Marine recreation is for everyone’, the three- day exhibition featured 25 exhibitors and attracted 3,000 visitors, and showcased a Ferretti Yachts 850 and NextWave Island 65 in the water.
The 21ft Ranger Tug, Happy Mini Ship, enjoyed a prime position at the show entrance and was the most photographed exhibit. A Monterey 224FSC was also on display in front while a Sea Ray 230 Signature was among other boats on show.
Asia-Pacific Boating was among the exhibitors, which included Northrop & Johnson, Simpson Marine, Sunseeker Asia, Asiamarine, NextWave Yachting, Marine Italia, Absolute Marine, Starship Yachts and Premier Collections, which showed models of the Volvo Ocean Race yachts.
Two of Hong Kong’s major sailing clubs – Aberdeen Boat Club and Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club – were among exhibitors, to the delight of show organiser David Robinson.
“This is a very pleasing sign that the clubs are reaching out to real people, dispelling the myth that sailing and boating are elitist,” Robinson said. “The ABC displayed an Optimist, an entry-level craft for young sailors all around the world, while the RHKYC brought along a Laser and signed up at least two people for their sailing courses.”
