Tan is based in Indonesia and also the President Director of Pt. Arisamandiri Pratama, a leading electronic manufacturing facility in Central Java with 2,000 employees. He established H Marine, the exclusive dealer of Azimut Yachts Indonesia and Singapore.

The new dealership will see Azimut Yachts Singapore further develop the ability to provide assistance from the purchase of a yacht to aftersales service, from its offices in Singapore and Indonesia.

C&N AND WEALTH-X REPORT ON LUXURY YACHTING SECTOR

My Reading Room

CAMPER & NICHOLSONS (C&N) and Wealth-X released a report on the world’s wealthy and the luxury yachting sector.

Wealth-X analysed data from 211,275 Ultra High Net Worth Individuals (UHNWI) UHNWI – defined as those with a minimum net worth of US$30 million – globally. The data identified three factors that marked these experiences as desirable: time or making every moment count, privacy during the experience and personalisation to both meet individual tastes and to provide something truly one of a kind.

Key findings from the report include:
The average value of a superyacht owned by an UHNWI is just over US$10 million. Only 1,512 individuals own a superyacht – that’s only one for every 141 UHNWIs – and one third of them are billionaires. The top countries for UHNWI superyacht owners are the United States (33%), United Kingdom (11%), Italy (5%), Australia (4%) and Russia (3%). UHNWIs make up about 98% of the share of the luxury market for yachts, with an annual spend of US$22 billion.

HOLLAND WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR a quarter of the world’s deliveries in terms of value in 2015, according to the latest superyacht figures.

The Dutch yards launched 22 superyachts, six more than last year, worth €1.18 billion. This represents an average of €54 million a yacht, twice that of the average build worldwide (€26.7 million). The total length of 2015 deliveries gives Holland 19.1% market share globally, a rise of over 7% on the 2014 figures whilst the forecast for this year is 25 deliveries with a total length of 1,425 metres.

The HISWA Holland Yachting Group’s A-list yards and suppliers took orders for 24 superyachts in 2015, with an average length of 56 metres.

“The Dutch superyacht cluster is clearly in a very healthy condition,” says HISWA Holland Yachting Group Export Director Jeroen Sirag. “We saw yards such as Amels, Feadship, Hakvoort and Mulder Shipyard launch their largest projects in 2015, while Holland Jachtbouw, Heesen, Oceanco and Royal Huisman have all invested heavily in their facilities to win new contracts and manage growth.”

NEW GOLD ANCHOR SCHEME FOR CHINA LAUNCHED AT SHANGHAI BOAT SHOW

My Reading Room

THE MARINA INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION (MIA) launched the new global Gold Anchor scheme in China at the Austrade networking event at the 2016 Shanghai Boat Show (Apr 7-10). It is the result of an agreement signed between MIA and The Yacht Harbours Association in November 2014.

A number of dignitaries attended – including Australian Trade Commissioner Commercial Consul in Shanghai Karen Surmon, Xinfa Yang of the China Boat Industry and Trade Association and MIA Chairman Andrew Chapman.

“The new global Gold Anchor scheme will provide Chinese marinas a clear direction of development in increasing the standard of infrastructure and services in sea-side leisure infrastructure,” says Chapman. “This will raise the level and professionalism of the whole industry so it can compete on an international scale. The ever-expanding Chinese middle class is demanding better quality facilities and the Chinese government is placing greater importance on developing this industry for all levels of society to enjoy.”

There are four Gold Anchor Marinas in China – Wuxi Taihu Shanshui Club and Marina, Serenity Marina, Nansha Marina and Qingdao Olympic Marina, which has 4½ gold anchors.

PERSHING POWERHOUSE VISITS LEE MARINE IN PHUKET, FERRETTI ASIA TEAM IN HK

PERSHING HEAD OF SALES & MARKETING Nada Serafini recently spent some time at the new Lee Marine International Marine Brokerage office at Ao Po Grand Marina in Phuket, Thailand. Serafini shared her years of knowledge with the Lee Marine team, while updating them on the latest design of soon-to-be-launched Pershing 5X. She also visited the Ferretti Group’s Asia team in Hong Kong.

Starting as a Pershing Personal Assistant to three bosses, her duties spanned from answering phones to ordering overseas parts and collaborating with the management department. Her possession of five languages assists greatly. It is a common thought that yacht building is a man’s territory and a woman is an unlikely fit in this industry. “When you are selling such a dream, such an experience as Pershing, at the end of the day, the woman is usually the decision maker,” says Serafini.

She thrives on excitement for the design and build. An iconic example Serafini recalls was in 2000, when the Pershing 88 was launched. She approached Pershing Founder Tilli Antonelli, telling him she felt he had a problem. Then came the Pershing 115, which became the brand’s flagship for years.

One of the latest Pershing projects, the 5X, will debut at the Ferretti Group’s Monaco preview in September. Her 54-foot length is a prime example of a suitable-sized boat fitting the criteria that Pershing Owners suggested. The full-beam master cabin spanning the ster with maximum clearance is one result. Lee Marine is the Thailand distributor for Pershing and other Ferretti Group brands.

“My blood is silver. I think to the top only – something which projects me to extraordinary. And besides, Pershing spoils me,” Serafini replies when asked if she ever considered another working opportunity. – Lori Ashton

ROYAL PHUKET MARINA recently opened the newest dry stack boat storage facility in Thailand, complete with the latest Wiggins Marina Bull forklift technology.

Its dry stack caters for boats up to 12 metres (39 feet) in length and increases boat capacity at Royal Phuket Marina to 296.

“Our new dry stack can minimise boat maintenance and keep small boats in a safe and secure, easily accessible location. The Wiggins Marina Bull forklift provides the latest lift technology from the US. Boats can be lifted in and out of the water with the utmost safety. The first section of the dry stack accommodates 60 boats while the second section will accommodate a further 66, bringing our total marina capacity to 296,” says Royal Phuket Marina Manager Woranart Wongvanich.

The Boat Butler concept is akin to valet parking for boats. Owners make a call to Royal Phuket Marina and their boat is fuelled and ready to go. When the Owners return, they can rely on Royal Phuket Marina’s concierge team to wash the boat and put it back on the dry stack. It also offers unlimited free lifts in and out of the water.

SANLORENZO RELOCATES TWO 52STEEL MODELS TO LA SPEZIA

My Reading Room

ITALIAN YACHT BUILDER SANLORENZO has moved two 52Steel yachts from its Viareggio shipyard to rented premises at La Spezia’s Cantieri San Marco.

The La Spezia production site is a large, fully equipped area with direct access to the sea, allowing for the design and production of 40m to 80m metal boats. Sanlorenzo is able to count on three distinct production sites. The company’s HQ is inside the Ameglia shipyard that will continue the production of 78ft to 106ft medium-sized fibreglass boats.

Sanlorenzo’s facility in Viareggio will focus on the production of 112ft to 126ft fibreglass yachts, taking advantage of the new spaces available. The La Spezia shipyard will focus on the production of the largest, metal-made superyachts.

The expansion decision enabled the company’s growth in the last three years, which resulted in turnover of €220 million in 2015.

This year, Sanlorenzo maintains the second spot in the world ranking of the top 20 builders for yachts above 24m.
