COMPETING IN THE Top of the Gulf Regatta presented by Ocean Marina Yacht Club for the first time, the modified Sydney 40 Emagine, skippered by Scott Bradley, claimed the IRC Racing 1 title in an event that featured 200 yachts and 700 sailors.

A win in the final race for THA 72 was enough to tie them on points with Club Swan 42 Loco (USA), skippered by David Dimmock, and THA72 were awarded second place on countback.

The annual Platu Coronation Cup featured 11 teams from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Russia and UK. After snatching second in the final race, Malaysia’s Team Viewpoint skippered by Rolf Heemskerk won the Cup, followed by Australian sailor Chris Way’s Easy Tiger and Valeriy Dichenko’s Naiad from Russia. El Coyote (AUS) of Gary Baguley won six of the eight races in IRC Racing 3 to claim the title and was followed by Martin Brown’s Nautical Wheeler (USA) and David Bell on Magic (AUS).

Chris Mitchell’s Lady Bubbly (AUS) recorded four wins in five races to dominate the Cruising class ahead of Le Vent (THA) in second and Thida Waree (AUS) third. Kirati Assakul and his crew on Sonic (THA) retained their Ocean Multihulls title, ahead of Bladerunner 7 (UK).

The Laser Standard, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7 finished their series a day earlier, as did the 420s, 470s and the Optimist fleet.

Panwa Boonnak won the Thailand Optimist National Championships, the country’s premier youth sailing trophy, ahead of Jedtavee Yongyuennan and two international entries, Mic Mohr (CRI) and Duncan Gregor (HKG).
