IN LATE JUNE, U.S. News & World Report named the Great Barrier Reef in Australia as the world’s top travel destination of 2016-2017. Tokyo and Hong Kong are also on the list at the fifth and 17th places, respectively. Popular tourist destination Bali was ranked 22nd.

Home to the world’s largest coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef ’s ecosystem is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but is also one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime vacation,” says U.S. News Travel Editor Erin Shields. The Great Barrier Reef is home to more than 3,000 coral reefs and 600 islands. Spanning more than 344,400 square kilometres, there is so much beauty to enjoy. One of the best ways to explore the Great Barrier Reef is by private yacht.

Yacht charters in the area are gaining popularity. In addition to providing guests with the holiday of a lifetime, they will also help educate reef visitors as to how people can help sustain the environment and ecosystem for the future generations.

The U.S. News considered more than 250 destinations when compiling its list of Best Places to Visit in 2016-2017 and utilised both travellers’ opinions and expert analysis.
