EUROPE’S LEADING IN-WATER EVENT and arguably the world’s most prestigious boat show, the historic Cannes Yachting Festival will celebrate its 40th anniversary in September, having first been held in the southern French city in 1978.

The six-day event will be held from September 12-17 in the Vieux Port and Port Pierre Canto harbours, and look to build on last year’s edition, which featured over 600 yachts (up to 52m) and attracted over 51,000 visitors, of whom 60 per cent were from abroad.

From Italy, Baglietto’s 48m Andiamo will have her world premiere at this year’s show after cruising the Med in the summer, while Sanlorenzo will stage the world premiere of its SX88 crossover yacht as part of a large display of yachts ranging from the SL78 to the SD126.

Azimut will showcase the world premieres of its 60, S7, Grande 27 Metri and the Grande 35 Metri, the Grande collection’s 115ft flagship, while fellow Italian builder Monte Carlo Yachts will premiere its MCY 96.

From France, Lagoon will showcase its new 40, 50 and flagship Seventy 8 power catamaran –  sister to the Seventy 7 sailing cat launched at Cannes last year – while CNB will launch its new 66. Beneteau Sail premieres will include the Oceanis 51.1 and 55.1, while the GT 50 and Swift Trawler 35 will be among new Beneteau Power models.

Turkish boutique shipyard Mazu Yachts will host the world debuts of its 38 soft top, 38 open and 42 walk-around.

Last year’s show featured 530 exhibitors, with 60 per cent from outside France. The 630 yachts displayed in and out of the water included 120 sailing boats and 45 multihulls.
