AS THE NINTH EDITION OF THE CHINA CUP International Regatta (Oct 30-Nov 2) came to a close, Australia’s Wanhang Longcheer secured victory in the competitive Beneteau 40.7 division. Emirates Team New Zealand took second in the division, followed by Beijing Sailing Center in third.

The New Zealand crew started off the four-day regatta with a win in the opening event, the 30-mile Hong Kong to Shenzhen Passage Race. China’s Hero Racing Team won the IRC A division comfortably, claiming four of the six races. In IRC B, Hong Kong’s J/109 Whiskey Jack took the title over Cheng Ying Kit and veterans of the Volvo Ocean Race from Dongfeng Race Team sailing for China Sailing Tour 1. In IRC C, Shawn Kang’s Beneteau 50 Lighthorse won every race in the division.

A tiebreak in the HKPN A division gave Hong Kong’s PDSTi Xiongtao the win over China’s TT. It was close in HKPN B as well, with Sleeepy Pigggy’s taking the victory.

Zhang Zuan and the Dalian Naval Academy Sailing Team were clear winners in the ASAF Class. USA’s Jim Johnston and his crew of students were runaway winners of the J/80 one-design fleet.

Following four days of racing, the 111 teams from nations all over the world attended the final prize giving and closing ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel Dameisha. The China Cup International Regatta will return for its 10th edition in October 2016.
