A total of 2,368 yachts visited OneOcean Port Vell, with a third of the yachts choosing the marina as a home berth, attracted by the option of a winter base in the Mediterranean to prepare for the summer season. Visits to the marina from June to August 2015 accounted for half the total traffic at OneOcean Port Vell and in the month of August 436 boats dropped anchor in the marina.

According to the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, the nautical industry – of which OneOcean Port Vell has directly influenced – contributed a total of 836 million euros into the Catalan capital in 2015, while directly employing 8,300 people. In addition to this, the Barcelona Nautical Cluster reports that the average cost to maintain a yacht 55 metres long is approximately three million euros annually with 25% repair expenditure and 9% on berth rental.

“The success of our first year proves that Barcelona is a viable cruising destination and perfect winter home port, with many yachts choosing to stay in Barcelona for repair and overhaul activities as well as returning in the spring and summer months. We are also delighted to have contributed a significant economic impact to the marine industry and local businesses in Barcelona in only our first year of operation,” says OneOcean Port Vell General Manager Paul Cook.

The season kicked off in May during the Barcelona F1 Grand Prix with OneOcean Club and marina hosting the Martini Terrace for Williams Racing. The season continued with the club hosting Yacht Rendezvous for the International SeaKeepers Society, a Mercedes-Benz SUV launch and Barcelona’s BigBang Supercar Showcase –the city’s newest fast car event.

SINCE APRIL, Fiji Airways has been providing direct flights between Singapore amd Nadi, Fiji twice a week. Travellers can then go directly to the shores of Laucala Island, a ‘Paradise on Earth’ with 3,500 acres of all-inclusive private island experience.

A three-night stay in a luxurious one-bedroom villa with private pool and all-inclusive amenities, private jet transfers, as well as return flights with Fiji Airways, is available. Visas are not required for Singapore passport holders travelling to Fiji and visitors can stay for up to 4 months.

A two-person DeepFlight Super Falcon submersible, one of just three in the world and the only one available to the public, is also included as part of the daily villa rate.

The island is a 50-minute plane ride from Nadi airport and boasts 25 private villas comprised of one, two and three-bedroom residences, each with a private swimming pool, tropical garden and spacious indoor and outdoor living areas.

Another highlight on Laucala Island is the Welcome to Fiji cultural evening. During the event, guests are provided with traditional Fijian dress and enjoy local food cooked in the Lovo – the underground cooking pit covered by leaves. At the Kava Ceremony, the native drink is mixed and shared amongst guests. Traditional dance and music follow as part of the celebration.

Fiji also saw the recent established official presence of Seal Superyachts. Baobab Marine was initially set up to give yachts traversing the Pacific the option to have skilled repairs, maintenance and quality fabrications carried out in Fiji year round. Since then the company has grown to become one of Fiji’s leading superyacht specialists, and will now be known as Seal Superyachts Fiji.

“We find ourselves growing every year and are privileged to have a long list of repeat clients. Becoming part of Seal Superyachts allows us to provide an additional level of service to our clients, by providing them with continued high-quality service,” says Seal Superyachts Fiji Team Head Brian Smith.
