ITALY’S AZIMUT BENETTI GROUP has been commissioned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to build a 35m conference yacht for hosting official presentations and meetings. The motoryacht will be built at Azimut Benetti’s Livorno shipyard and is scheduled to be delivered in December 2018.

Vincenzo Poerio, CEO of Benetti, said: “We have won an extremely difficult tender operation in a country where the impeccable quality of products and services is a philosophy of life. The customer was extremely selective in both the pre-selection and award stages.”

For this custom-built motoryacht, Azimut Benetti worked with Verme Yacht Design consultants on the development of the structural design and the hull shape. Project Manager Fortunato Di Marco oversees the team working on the order, including a group of Japanese engineers to ensure immediate customer service.

The three-deck conference boat, designed to reach 25 knots, will be equipped with a meeting table with seats for 35, an interpreter booth and a Japanese-style reception room.

In order to navigate in the shallow waters in Tokyo Bay, the draught of the boat will be kept below 1.25m by the use of a water-jet propulsion system. As the yacht is limited in height to 11m from the waterline to enable it to pass under the numerous bridges in the area, a special retractable aerial has been designed.
