My Reading Room

And when you see the bold, norm-challenging women who are changing perceptions of what we deem as beautiful in “Reinventing Beauty”, page 26, you’ll know what we mean. Model Ashley Graham’s put the curvy back on to magazine covers and runways, and with her plus-sized 38D bust and 32-inch waist, isn’t letting convention control what she can and can’t do.

Then there’s the gorgeous model Winnie Harlow, who was a contestant on America’s Next Top Model (ANTM). Winnie has vitiligo, a chronic condition that depigmentises portions of her skin. She reveals that, as a child, she was called names like “cow and zebra”. But Tyra Banks, ANTM’s host, said, “Her [Winnie’s] beauty is undeniable and her skin breaks down barriers of what is considered beautiful.” We all have different views of what beauty is, and we’re here not to tell you what is beautiful, but to help you look and feel your best. That’s why each issue is filled with advice and tips to guide you. In “Colour Me Beautiful”, page 53, we show three women new ways to rev up their look. The change is quite remarkable but what struck us most, was that the beauty in their images came out of a renewed sense of confidence. Mission accomplished!
