Who’s Paul Andrew?
The British-born, New York-based designer spent more than 15 years designing shoes for Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan before starting his own label in 2013. What he considers the biggest compliment: “When people wear my shoes and say that they’re comfortable, I’ve accomplished my goal – because I’ve worked really hard on the construction of the shoes.”
A shoe trend he loves
“I really like Lucite heels. They make shoes look like Cinderella’s glass slippers! And you almost look like you’re floating when you’re walking in them.”
The #inspo behind his new collection
“For each collection, I get inspired by cities. This one’s inspired by Hong Kong and Beijing – they’re such modern places, and I tried to encapsulate the architecture in the shapes of the shoes. Colours-wise, I took reference from In the Mood for Love and all its beautiful costumes.”
In his fantasy world, he’d design shoes for… “(Late actress) Marlene Dietrich in (1932 lm) Shanghai Express. I love old movies, and they really don’t make them like this anymore.”
Three styles every woman should own
1“Classic pumps. The ones I do are called Zenadia, which come in six diff erent heights. Pick the ones that you feel work best with your height.”
2 “Really great goingout shoes. They could be statement gladiator sandals, printed wedges or embroidered sandals.”
3 “Slingbacks, which are great for a warm climate – like you have here in Singapore.”
