Wearability and versatility seemed to be the bywords for a collection that presented what Shanghai Tang does best: The melding of contemporary silhouettes with traditional Chinese elements and motifs, in a range of designs that holds something for everyone. Butterflies fluttered on smart bomber jackets and louche pyjama pants. Autumnal-hued ginkgo leaves found their way to a jacquard pantsuit, capes and short-sleeved qipao frocks. Snakes slithered up sleeves and dresses; and in the case of a velvet wrap dress, came heavily embellished with glass beads for a 3D effect. A somewhat unexpected twist came in the form of a metallic copper A-line leather skirt and dress adorned with a traditional crane motif to drive the brand’s ethos home.
